The Rottweiler developed naturally in Germany over many generations before systematic breeding efforts standardised its distinctive traits. Today it is recognised by the world's major feline registries and cherished by enthusiasts across the globe.

As a member of the Working Group, the Rottweiler was bred for physically demanding roles — guarding estates, pulling sleds, and performing water rescues — developing the powerful build, intelligence, and serious-minded work ethic that defines the breed today.

The Rottweiler is a giant dog, typically weighing 35–60 kg and standing approximately 56–69 cm at the shoulder — enormous and commanding with a gentle giant reputation.

The breed appears in a range of colours including Black and Tan · Black and Mahogany · Black and Rust, with each combination lending a subtly different character to the dog's appearance.
